Forums & Newsgroups
No matter how off-beat your business is, there
are newsgroups that cover it. Go to http://groups.google.com
for Google's list. If you prefer Yahoo over Google go to http://groups.yahoo.com.
Getting the hang of newsgroups and forums can
be a bit tricky but it is worth it in the end. If you start regularly
contributing to the discussions, your fellow forum devotees will
begin to regard you as an expert. You can set up your profile
account to include your domain name. This encourages people to
come see what your business is really all about. Yes, there it
is again, extremely targeted traffic coming your way.
You will want to participate in the activities of the members
in that forum. If they have questions you know the answers to,
answer them. Become one of the people they look to for answers,
then the business will start to flow toward you. This is a rather
time consuming task, but if you have the time, it is highly recommended.
Just whatever you do, don't post a message in a forum like "go
to my website for great deals". They treat that like spam,
and this will cause much more harm than good for your website.
Forum members have a remarkable influence on people in their target
market area.
